Natural cosmetics and vegan cosmetics are subject to certain guidelines regarding production and ingredients. Natural cosmetics do not contain ingredients such as silicones, polyethylene glycols, petroleum-based substances, microplastics and many preservatives. However, animal products such as honey, milk, eggs and invertebrates are not prohibited. Vegan cosmetics completely avoid ingredients of animal origin. However, they can contain chemical ingredients, provided they are purely plant-based. If you want to avoid both chemical substances and animal products, it is best to use certified vegan natural cosmetics.

The easiest way to recognize vegan cosmetics is when the product is labeled with a corresponding certificate. The best known are the Vegan Flower from the Vegan Society, the Cruelty free and vegan Bunny from Peta and the V-Label “vegan” from ProVeg. If you can’t find a corresponding label from a manufacturer, you can look at the list of ingredients. But be careful! On average, vegan cosmetics perform better than conventional products. However, this does not mean that vegan care products, make-up, etc. are safe for the skin and nature. Some conventional products contain synthetic polymers (soluble plastic), polyethylene glycols and chemically related substances (PEG).
