The oils and essential oils for these hand soaps are 100% organically grown or wild-harvested. The coconut oil comes from a fair-trade project in the Dominican Republic. We source the olive oil from cooperatives in Spain, Italy, and Greece.

Biodegradation: Soap made from vegetable oils has the unparalleled characteristic of immediately combining with the lime always present in wastewater after use. This neutralizes the soap's surfactant effect (primary degradation). This primary degradation occurs within a few hours. The lime soap is then 100% broken down into carbon dioxide and water by microorganisms (secondary degradation). Ethanol reintegrates into the natural cycle within a few hours. In addition to the natural glycerin, which is released from the oils during saponification, we also use plant-based glycerin, which binds skin moisture. During the manufacturing process of sugar surfactants, parts are extracted from the plant-based raw materials starch, sugar, and fat, but their natural structural composition remains completely intact. Therefore, it is relatively easy for microorganisms to rapidly and completely break down these surfactants by 100%. Soap and sugar surfactants are considered readily biodegradable according to OECD.
